AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company: Attending the seminar "Veterinary vaccine: production technology and application"

On March 16-17, 2023, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company attended a seminar at the University of Agriculture and Forestry in Ho Chi Minh City with the topic "Veterinary vaccines: production technology and application".

   The event attracted nearly 100 representatives from enterprises in animal husbandry, animal feed production, production of vaccines, veterinary drugs and probiotics: Avac, Reber Genetics, Cargill, CP, Greenfeed, Sunjin Vina, Japfa ...); teachers and lecturers from many universities: University of Agriculture and Forestry Ho Chi Minh City; Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; University of Nebraska Lincoln.

   At the workshop "Veterinary vaccines: production technology and application", speakers presented around many topics from general to practical application such as: (1) Update on important and emerging viral diseases in pigs and vaccines against diseases - PGS. TS. Do Tien Duy (University of Agriculture and Forestry Ho Chi Minh City); (2) Basic principles in the development of veterinary virus vaccines - PGS. TS. Vu Lai Xuan Hiep (University of Nebraska Lincoln); (3) Swine immune response to African swine fever vaccine AVAC ASF Live - TS. Nguyen Van Diep (General Director of Avac Vietnam Joint Stock Company); (4) Virulent and inactivated virus vaccines: Production methods and mechanisms of immune stimulation - TS. Dinh Xuan Phat (University of Agriculture and Forestry Ho Chi Minh City); (5) New Generation Vaccines: Advantages and Disadvantages - TS. Frank Chia-Jung Chang, Head of Research and Development, Reber Genetics (Taiwan); (6) The role of innate immunity in modern vaccine production technology - PGS. TS. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City); (7) Current bacterial vaccine manufacturing technology - PGS. Nguyen Duc Hoang (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology); (8) Use and testing of veterinary vaccines on farms - guidance and exchange of opinions with experts (discussion).

   According to TS. Nguyen Van Diep, General Director of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company: in recent years, the livestock - veterinary industry has faced many difficulties in terms of diseases on livestock. This poses many challenges and opportunities for businesses and scientific researchers to apply research works and experiments to the production of drugs, vaccines to prevent and treat diseases for livestock. Besides, the need for cooperation in exchanging experiences and expertise between businesses, scientists and livestock farmers is huge.

   In particular, TS.. Nguyen Van Diep gave a presentation with the topic: "Immune response of pigs to AVAC ASF Live vaccine against African swine fever and scenarios when using vaccines", attracting great attention of participants.

   TS. Nguyen Van Diep answered questions of experts and guests to better understand the situations when using Avac ASF live vaccine, the mechanism of immune response during vaccine use, possible cases of technical manipulations when injecting affect the immunogenic effect. At the same time, TS. Nguyen Van Diep explained to guests a deeper understanding of the vaccine manufacturing process, including steps such as creating a compatible cell line (DMAC) for African swine fever virus to multiply; evaluation of virus-like characteristics on vaccines; create a nuclear vaccine variety on DMAC line cells; safety assessment; assessing the effect, determining the dose and age; determination of the length of immunity; assessment of yield, growth ability; evaluation of transmitted maternal antibodies; camp-scale testing.

   During the Q&A period at the end of the show, the guests were especially interested and supportive when Dr. Nguyen Van Diep shared more about "scenarios when using vaccines of Avac Vietnam Joint Stock Company", based on research and actual product development. This has contributed to creating a deeper direction in the production and use of vaccines in practice suitable for epidemic situations and different scales.

   The seminar took place successfully, opening up many opportunities for cooperation between participants, contributing to bringing in-depth research works to manufacturing enterprises and products with high applicability to enterprises and livestock households. At the same time, creating connections between research facilities, breeders and manufacturing enterprises.
